| Brewer Type | Recommended Grind | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Drip Machine / Standard Brewer | Standard | The most versatile grind. Works with most home drip coffee makers. |
| Pour Over (Chemex, V60, Kalita) | Standard | Our Standard grind suits most pour over setups. Adjust brew time to taste — slower pours extract more fully. |
| French Press | Coarse | Coarse grind prevents over-extraction and keeps sediment manageable in a full-immersion brew. |
| Cold Brew | Coarse | Cold Brew Coffee is available in Coarse. Steep 12–24 hours in cold water. |
| Espresso Machine | Espresso | Fine grind optimized for high-pressure extraction. Ideal for espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos. |
| Reusable Keurig-Style Pod (e.g. My K-Cup) | Standard | See FAQ below for details on why we recommend Standard over Espresso for reusable pods. |
| Burr Grinder / Custom Grind at Home | Whole Bean | Buy whole bean and grind fresh for maximum flavor and aroma. Available across our full catalog. |
All four grind options are available across most products in our catalog. Start with a collection and select your grind on the product page.
We recommend Standard grind for reusable Keurig-style pods. Here's why: the brewing chamber in a reusable pod has a wider, less pressurized flow path than an espresso machine. An Espresso grind is too fine for this — it can clog the filter basket, cause slow or stalled brewing, and lead to over-extracted, bitter coffee. Standard grind flows evenly at the lower pressure Keurig brewers use, giving you a cleaner, more balanced cup.
If you prefer a stronger result, try a dark roast in Standard grind (such as our Espresso roasts or Italian Roast available in Standard), or reduce your selected brew size on the Keurig to concentrate the cup — rather than switching to Espresso grind.
Order Whole Bean and grind fresh before each brew. This preserves volatile aromatics and lets you dial in the exact grind size your equipment needs. Nearly our entire catalog is available in Whole Bean.
No — Coarse is also the right choice for French Press. The longer immersion time in a French press pairs well with a coarser grind to avoid over-extraction and bitterness.
Yes. Standard grind works well for most pour over brewers. Results vary by brewer geometry, filter type, and pour speed. We don't currently offer a dedicated pour over grind, but Standard is the closest match for medium-flow pour overs like the Chemex or V60.
Exact brew results vary by equipment, water quality, and personal preference. These recommendations are based on our catalog's verified grind options: Whole Bean, Standard, Espresso, and Coarse.
